Canto 5. Mercury (March 2017)
(fourth incarnation)
In the poem's fifth Paradiso canto, Beatrice continues her
discourse on the nature of free will and the importance of vows.
At length Dante and Beatice rise to heaven's second circle,
a light-filled region corresponding to the planet Mercury.
More spirits appear amid the light, and they speak of how this
region is hidden from mortals by the sun's brilliant rays.
