Canto 9. Beatrice (March 2017)
(fourth incarnation)
I call the ninth image gallery in my new Paradiso Beatrice
because nine is the number Dante associated with her in his book
Vita Nuova, or New Life, nine being how old he was when he first saw
her and eighteen being how old he was the first time she saw him.
She died young, and Dante subsequently referred to her as his
guide in Paradiso, a plutonic representation of purity and intellect.
