Unshriven is the term that can be used to describe additional
characters encountered in this canto of the original poem.
In the Church unshriven refers to people who have not
confessed to a priest and received penance and absolution.
In this part of Purgatorio Dante encounters more people who
waited too long to repent and then died unexpectedly.
