Finally beginning their long, arduous ascent,
the pilrim and his guide climb a steep, narrow path
between two tall rock walls until they reach
a ledge and catch sight of the sun off to one side.
In the poem Dante encounters someone from his home,
stuck here because he delayed changing his ways.
